يبدأ الحديث عن هذا الكتاب من اسمه، واسمه يقودنا إلى تصور معناه، "مجمع الأحباب".اسم يتدفق بالمشاعر السامية، خصوصاً عند التذكر للرابطة المباركة بين صفوة الأمة في كل عصر ومصر، هذه الرابطة المباركة لها اتفاق في الصفات والخصائص، وإن اختلف الزمان والمكان؛ فهذه الصفات وهذه الخصائص تسلسلت من العصر الأول، المشار إليه بقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "خير القرون قرني.. ثم الذين يلونهم، ثم الذين يلونهم".. ثم أنساب ذلك من عصر إلى عصر، ومن مكان إلى مكان.. حتى زماننا هذا.
فالمؤلف جمع ما قدِّر له أن يجمعه حتى زمانه في "مجمعه"، والفكرة التي قام عليها الكتاب.. هي الاختيار الموفق لرجال ونساء وشباب وفتيات من عصر السلف، مع إظهار مناخهم السلوكي ومشربهم الروحي، مع اختلاف طبقاتهم ومشاربهم. كما يحوي الكتاب سير وأخبار أقطاب الزهد والورع وآثارهم، ويحمل في طياته العلاج الناجع لداء القسوة والعُجْب والكبر، وغيرها من الأدواء؛ لأن رجال المجمع هم أطباء القلوب، بما آتاهم الله من العلم والحكمة.
وهذا الكتاب الذي يطبع لأول مرة.. هو اختصار لكتاب "حلية الأولياء" للحافظ أبي نُعيم الكتاب المعروف المشهور، الحاوي للمحاسن، إلا أنه كان بحاجة ملحة إلى من يستخلص زُبْده، ويصطفى لبابه، ويختار من مواعظه ورقائقه، وينتقي من أزاهير حِكَمه ما كان أعظم وقعاً في النفوس، وألصَقَ بسِيَر المعاصرين، وأنفذ إلى قلوبهم علاوة على أن هنالك أماكن محصورة كانت بحاجة إلى تحرير، ومسائل معدودة لا بد من إعادة النظر فيها، وإضافات جوهرية يتطلب المقام إيرادها. لذلك كله فقد قيض الله تعالى لهذه الغاية السامية، والأهداف العلية.. الإمام الشريف محمد بن الحسن الواسطي.
وأخيراً.. فهذا كتاب "مجمع الأحباب وتذكرة أولي الألباب"، يتهادى في حلله القشيبة، وطبعته المحققة الأنيقة، ولا سيما الجهد المبذول في تخريج الأحاديث النبوية، بالدلالة عليها في مصادرها المتنوعة، إضافة إلى شرح الغريب، ورد النصوص إلى أصولها.
