نحن أمام شخصية صحابى جليل من صحابة محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم لم ولن يتكرر مثله فى حياتنا الدنيا ، فقد كان ابن عوف سيد وزعيم المنفقين فى الأرض بعطائه وكرمه وشدة سخائه على جيوش الإسلام وفقراء ويتامى المسلمين ، لذا بشره عظيم الرسل محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بالجنة فى محياه ، ورغم ذلك لم يتواكل رضى الله عنه بهذه البشرى ، بل اجتهد وصابر وجاهد ووهب نفسه وأنفق جل ماله فى سبيل الله ، فأكرمه ربه بالخلود فى الجنة مع المصطفى صلى الله عليه وسلم ، ولما لا وهو الصحابى الأول الذى صلى خلفه النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم فى إحدى الصلوات الخمس المكتوبة ، ولما لا وهو الصحابى الوحيد الذى كان يلقب فى المدينة بأن فقراء ويتامى المسلمين عيالا لابن عوف ، هذا فضلا أنه كان مستشارا أمينا للخلفاء الثلاثة أبو بكر وعمر وعثمان ، بل إنه من شدة ورعه وتقواه وعدله أوكل إليه بتولية الخليفة الثالث وحكم بين على بن أبى طالب وعثمان بن عفان فى أمر الخلافة فاختار عثمان بناء على بحث وشورى واستفتاء استغرق ثلاثة أيام.
