يعتبر السلطان الملك المنصور سيف الدين قلاوون من أعظم شخصيات عصر سلاطين المماليك بصفة عامة، وعصر المماليك البحرية بصفة خاصة، فقد ترك طابعه على جميع السلاطين الذين جاءوا بعده سواء من البحرية أو البرجية.
ولما كان موضوع هذا البحث يختص بدراسة مجموعة السلطان قلاوون بشارع المعز لدين الله دراسة تاريخية وأثرية، لذلك رأيت أن أتناول هذا البحث في بابين، يتناول الباب الأول دراسة تاريخية لسيرة السلطان قلاوون وأحوال مصر في عهده، وينقسم هذا الباب إلى ثلاثة فصول، يتناول الفصل الأول منها قلاوون والسلطنة، والفصل الثاني يتناول أحوال مصر في عهد السلطان قلاوون، والفصل الثالث يتناول العلاقات الخارجية الودية والحربية في عهد السلطان قلاوون.
أما الباب الثاني فيتناول دراسة مجموعة السلطان قلاوون الباقية بشارع المعز لدين الله، وينقسم هذا الباب إلى أربعة فصول، يتناول الفصل الأول منها البيمارستان المنصوري، والفصل الثانييتناول القبة المنصورية، والفصل الثالث يتناول المدرسة المنصورية، أما الفصل الرابع والأخير فيتناول دراسة تحليلية لما تضمنته مجموعة السلطان قلاوون من وحدات وعناصر معمارية وزخرفية، وقد اعتمدت في هذا البحث على عدد كبير من المصادر والمراجع العربية والأجنبية.
