فإننى لم أكن أتصور أن يقفز كتاب سر الفصاحة فوق كل الحواجز التى وضعتها فى ترتيب الأعمال العلمية التى أقوم بتحقيقها، والتى أرجو أن يوفق الله سبحانه إلى إتمامها، فقد كان ترتيب سر الفصاحة الخامس، ولكنه آثر أن يتحول من الساقة إلى المقدمة، وأن يفرض نفسه على فرضاً. فعندما ذهبت إلى بيتى جلست أتصفح قائمة المخطوطات، وفى الحق كانت عينى تقفز على الصفحات؛ لأننى كنت أبحث بجد واجتهاد عن مخطوطة كتاب جمع الجواهر فى الملح والنوادر للحصرى القيروانى، ولكننى لم أجد لها أثراً فى هذه القائمة، ولكننى وجدت نسخة قديمة من مخطوطة كتاب سر الفصاحة، فذهبت فى اليوم التالى -بعد أدائى محاضراتى فى كلية اللغة العربية- إلى المكتبة راجياً من أخى الدكتور محمد الزير نسخة من المخطوطة، وكان أقصى أملى أن أحصل عليها بعد أسبوع أو أكثر قليلاً، فما كان من الرجل -بارك الله فيه- إلا أن استبقانى فى مكتبه، وطلب من المسئولين تصوير نسخة على وجه السرعة، ولم أخرج من المكتبة إلا والمخطوطة فى يدى، وكانت القفزة الذى ذكرتها فى أول حديثى، وكنت أنا السبب فيها.
