هذا هو الجزء الثانى من كتاب "من ينابيع الحداثة فى العالم العربى" يحاول أن يضع اليد على قدر يسير من إسهامات إسماعيل مظهر الكثيرة، والتي لا تستطيع أية دراسة مهما كان حجمها، ومهما كان طموحها، أن تحيط بها، فليس من وظيفة دراستنا إلا وضع اليد على ما اعتبرناه أهم ما شكل قلب اهتمامات مفكرنا، وهو ما اختزلناه في مفهومي: التطور والتوفيقية، ولعل عمل الرجل شديد الاتساع، بحيث يبدو كل اختزال مخاطرة حقيقية محفوفة بالعقبات وغير مضمونة العواقب.
