بين دفتيّ هذا الكتاب مجموع الأبحاث التي أنجزت في إطار مؤتمر «مستقبل العلوم الاجتماعية في الوطن العربي» (وهران/الجزائر 20 ـ 22 آذار ـ مارس 2012) الذي دعا إليه «مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية» (بيروت ـ لبنان) وبالشراكة مع «مركز البحث في الأنثروبولوجيا الاجتماعية والثقافية» (وهران ـ الجزائر)، وبالتعاون مع «الجمعية العربيّة لعلم الاجتماع» (تونس)، وبمجهود اثنين وعشرين عالماً. تتميز هذه الأبحاث بالدقة العلمية، والتجديد الفكري، وتنوّع الموضوعات، وتعبِّر عن رؤيةٍ سوسيولوجيّة عربية حديثة (ربما هي للمرة الأولى بهذه الشمولية) إلى قضايا علم الاجتماع في الوطن العربي بينما معظم الأبحاث السابقة، كانت تتناول شؤوننا من منظور الآخر إلينا. ولا تخفى أهمية ذلك على المتابعين والمختصين، كوننا نحتاج إلى علمِ اجتماعٍ عربيٍ متقدمٍ ومتعمقٍ يستفيد من المناهج الحديثة والمعاصرة، ويبتكر أدواتِ بحثٍ تُراعي مميزاتِ مجتمعاتنا العربية.
ولا شكّ في أن هذا الكتاب سوف يثير اهتمام علماء الاجتماع، والباحثين الشباب، وطلاب العلوم الاجتماعية نظراً إلى السمـات الثلاثِ المتوافرة فيه : أولاً، تنوع مناهج المشاركين. ثانياً، تعدد المقاربات التي شملت عدداً كبيراً من الحالات العربية. ثالثاً، الإضاءة على مرجعيات علم الاجتماع العربي ربطاً بالرؤى المستقبلية.
