مهما عادت بي الذاكرة إلى الوراء، ما أحسب نفسي إلا وأنا أطلب "العمل". و حل ما شغفني، تغيير الحياة اليومية، والبحث في إمكانية تحقيق ما يستحيل تحقيقه، وإيجاد هوامش للمناورة.
ولم تكن السياسة في أسرتي تقليداً، بل كل ما شهدته في حياتي كان يبعدني عن السياسة: فلم يكن لي مال أو جاه ولم أكن موظفاً، أما اسمي الذي يوحي بأنه أجنبي، فكان بالإمكان أن يحمل الكثيرين غيري على البقاء في الظل.
لكن السياسة لها سمة حازمة لا مثيل لها، فهي لا يمكن أن تكون إلا مع الفرنسيين، وليس من غيرهم ولا ضدهم، أحب فكرة الاشتراك في العمل نحو غاية واحدة، لإفساد الأمل للملايين من الناس، وقد تراجع منهم الكثير، فتخلوا عن الإيمان بأن الغد قد يكون واعداً بالأفضل، وتخلوا عن فكرة مستقبل سعيد لأولادهم.
ما أود أن أقوله أن القدر ليس محتوماً لمن يجرؤ ويحاول ويفعل. وأخطر موقف نكفه تجاه بلدنا وتجاه كل فرنسي، في عالم متحرك بسرعة كبيرة، هو الجمود.
أحب البناء والعمل وحل المشاكل، وأؤمن أن علينا استحقاق ما نتوق إليه، وأن الجهد رابح في المحصلة، هذه هي قيمي. هذه هي الأسباب التي جعلتني أمارس العمل السياسي. هذه هي بنظري مبررات رغبتي في تبوء المسؤوليات الكبرى. هذا ما جئت أقوله لكم.
