أما الخبر نفسه فقد كان يقول: إن اللص الذى سرق فيلا أم كلثوم وأمير الشعراء أحمد شوقى، انقلب إلى سفاح وارتكب 4 حوادث شروع فى قتل خلال 48 ساعة، هرب المتهم بعد هذه الحوادث وعاد إلى الإسكندرية، واتصل هناك تلفونياً بمكتب المحامى بدر الدين أيوب وقال إنه لابد أن يقتله حتى لو كان داخل المحافظة، وعلمت "الأخبار" أن سبب مطارديه للمحامى اعتقاده بوجود صلة بين زوجته والمحامى!
وسجلت "الأخبار" فى نفس العدد تفاصيل القصة الخبرية المثيرة، فقالت إن السفاح أطلق الرصاص على مهندس فى الإسكندرية، ثم سافر إلى القاهرة ليطلق الرصاص على طباخ وسائق وبواب، والحوادث الثلاث لمجرد هواية القتل!
