- نشأت يتيمة الأب في ظل جدها لوالداتها وخيلانها، فكان لكل منهم بصمة في شخصيتها أقربهم لها كان خالها الأوسط حسين الذي انتقلت للعيش معه بعد رحيل جدها وأخذت عن زوجته قوة شخصيتها، أما الصغير على وزوجته فكاناً بمثابة الصديق لها.
- كان لرحيل أخيها الأكبر المبكر وليلحق به جدها فخالها الأكبر أثراً على شخصيتها التي تخفي خلف غلالة ابتسامتها شبح دمعة تكافح كي لا تفارق جفنها.
- حصلت على شهادتها الأولى في كلية الإدارة والإقتصاد / قسم المحاسبة – ثم في كلية الآداب / قسم الترجمة.
- عملت في إحدى دوائر وزارة التجارة / الحسابات، ثم مصرف الرافدين والعديد من المصارف الغير حكومية.
- حصلت على عضوية جمعية المترجمين العراقيين كمترجمة قانونية.
- كتبت في مجلة عود الند تحت اسم هدى الكناني – ثم ديوان العرب بإسم هدى غاردينيا – ومجلتي منبر العراق الحر والفكر بإسم هدى المهداوي عرفاناً لعائلة والدتها لما بذلوه في تنشأتها.
