يركز فيه الكاتب على المبارزة الطويلة بين النخبة السياسية العسكرية المدعومة من الولايات المتحدة، وبين مواطني البلاد، حيث شكلت حاجات الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية السياسة الباكستانية الداخلية والخارجية لعقود.
مع الإحتلال الأمريكي لأفغانستان، أخذ النزاع شكلاً مباشراً، تلقي الطائرات الأمريكية القنابل على البيوت داخل باكستان، متذرعة بخطر سيطرة الجهاديين الإرهابيين على البلاد، ليكون ذلك حجة لإحتلال أمريكي جزئي.
منذ الإنفصال عن الهند عام 1947 وتأسيس دولة باكستان، كان لدينا بناء متناقض: أعراق، ثقافات، لغات مختلفة، وهذا لم يدم طويلاً، فقد حصل التقسيم في عام 1971 وانفصل شرق باكستان (يفصلها عن غرب باكستان 1600 كيلومتر من الأراضي الهندية) ليصبح بنغلادش.
