في كتابه هذا، يكشف الدكتور إبراهيم أبو العلا عن عمق التواصل الحضاري والتجاري والعلمي بين بلاد الأندلس من جهة، وعُمان وبلاد فارس وشرق أفريقيا من جهة أخرى، ففترة (ق 3-5ه / ق 9-11م) ، ولهذه الغاية قسم المؤلف كتابه على دراستين: الدراسة الأولى، بعنوان "رحلة التاجر الفقهية محمد إبن عيسى البيتاني الأندلسي إلى مركز التجارة والثقافة العُمانية والفارسية"، وهي تلقي أضواءً جديدة على إحدى صور التواصل التجاري والعلمي بين بلاد الأندلس من جهة وعُمان وبلاد فارس من جهة أخرى، من خلال رحلة البياني الأندلسي إلى صُحار أهم مراكز التجارة والثقافة العُمانية في القرن الثالث الهجري / التاسع الميلادي، وعبوره منها إلى مراكز التجارة والثقافة الفارسية، وأثر هذه الرحلة في الثقافة الدينية لمدينتي برقة وطرابلس، والأندلس.
أما الدراسة الثانية، وهي بعنوان "عُمان معبراً لتجار الأندلس وعلمائها إلى بلاد الزنج في القرن الخامس الهجري / الحادي عشر الميلادي بن ظُنّيْر الأنصاري الميورقي نموذجاً" وهي تلقي أيضاً أضواءً جديدة على رحلة هذا التاجر الفقيه اللغوي من البصرة إلى عُمان، طلباً للعلم والتجارة سنة 471ه / 1079م، ثم رحيله منها عبر ميناء صُحار إلى بلاد الزنج بشرق افريقيا، للتجارة، ونشر العلوم الدينية والعربية، مدة تزيد على السنة، وعودته بعد أداء فريضة الحج إلى العراق مستخدماً الطريق البحري عبر صُحار سنة 474ه / 1082م.
هذا الكتاب، إضافة جديدة للمكتبة العربية يقف على نواحٍ جديدة غير مطروقة عن التواصل الحضاري بين مغرب العالم الإسلامي ومشرقه عبر عُمان حتى أواخر القرن الخامس الهجري / الحادي عشر الميلادي.
