في كتابه هذا ، يرصد الدكتور أندريه طانيوس نصار " العلاقات بين مملكة كيليكيا الأرمنية والزنكيين والأيوبيين " للفترة ( القرنين السادس والسابع الهجريين / الثاني عشر والثالث عشر الميلاديين ) ، ضمن الصراع الإسلامي - الصليبي في الشرق ، للوقوف على الدور الذي أداه أرمن كيليكيا في الصراع . كما يتطرق إلى علاقاتهم بجيرانهم سلاجقة الروم والبيزنطيين ، وارتباط تلك العلاقات أحياناً بدائرة الصراع مع الزنكيين والأيوبيين ، واتصال الأرمن بالغرب اللاتيني بغية مواجهة الخطر الإسلامي والبيزنطي ، وتبعيتهم للزنكيين في عهد الأمير مليح توروس والمعاهدات التي وقّعوها مع المسلمين ، وصولاً إلى الغزو المغولي بقيادة هولاكو لبلاد الشام ومساندة الأرمن لهم ، وقضائهم على الدولة الأيوبية ، ثم هزيمة المغول أمام المماليك في معركة عين جالوت في العام 658 ه / 1260 م .
يقول الدكتور أندريه طانيوس نصار في كتابه هذا " ... تتمحور الإشكالية حول خلفية أسباب العلاقات التي اتخذت في معظم الأحيان طابع الصراع بين كيليكيا الأرمنية والزنكيين ومن ثم الأيوبيين ، والإجابة عن عدد من الأسئلة المتعلقة بالدور الصليبي والبيزنطي والسلجوقي في هذا الصراع ، وموقف البابوبيه منه ، والنتائج المترتبة عليه ، وصولاً إلى امتداد هذا الصراع مع المماليك الذين خلفوا الأيوبيين في حكم مصر وبلاد الشام ... " .
في هذا الكتاب يقدم الدكتور نصار قراءة تشرح وتشخيص التاريخ ، بنوع من المسائلة والمراجعة لما حدث ، ولماذا حدث ، قراءة خصبة وفعالة يستفاد منها في بناء فكر نقدي رصين ، وبهذا المعنى فما يقوله أو يرسمه المؤرخ حول الماضي ، يجب أن يشكل عقبة أمام المستقبل .
