ظل تاريخ مملكة أرمينية الصغرى الواقعة جنوب شرق الأناضول، يحيطه الغموض، ويرجع ذلك إلى قلة المصادر التاريخية المتخصصة، والمحقق منها وندرته، إذ ما قيس بالمصادر التاريخية الخاصة بالمناطق المحيطة بها والمعاصرة لها، إذ يرجع ذلك إلى عزوف الباحثين عن دراسة تلك المملكة وإهتمامهم بدراسة مناطق معينة، تقع ضمن نطاق الدولة العربية الإسلامية، كالعراق ومصر وبلاد الشام والجزيرة وبلاد ما وراء النهر وشمال أفريقيا وغيرها.
في الوقت الذي تحتاج فيه تلك المملكة إلى دراسة وافية ومفصلة، بإعتبارها جزءاً مكملاً لغرض فهم تاريخ المنطقة بشكل واضح من حيث أهميتها وتأثيرها على الدولة العربية الإسلامية.
وهذا ما دفع المؤلف لإختيار موضوع الكتاب، وتعد المنطقة التي شغلتها مملكة أرمينية الصغرى منذ الفتح العربي الإسلامي لها وحتى حقبة الدولة السلجوقية من مناطق الثغور والعواصم المهمة بين كل من الإمبراطورية البيزنطية والدولة العربية الإسلامية، حيث تميزت تلك المملكة في العصور الإسلامية بأهمية إستراتيجية كبيرة من الناحية السياسية والإقتصادية، التي كان لها نتائج مؤثرة في تاريخ تلك الدول، لما تتمتع به من موقع جغرافي مهم، أتاح لها أن تكون منطقة حيوية ذات دور كبير في إتصال العالم الإسلامي بشعوب المناطق الأخرى في آسيا وغيرها.
