ارتبط تاريخ المغول في الوعي العربي والإسلامي بالدمار الذي ألحقوه بالبلدان الإسلامية، وقضائهم علي الخلافة العباسية ببغداد وقتلهم الخليفة، ورغم تحول المغول لاحقاً إلي الإسلام، وفي مقدمتهم بركة خان زعيم مغول القفجاق، وما أحدثه هذا التحول من أثرٍ بالغٍ علي الأوضاع الداخلية والخارجية لخانية القفجاق بوجه عام، وعلي الخارطة السياسية للعالم الإسلامي بوجه خاص، فإن هذا الموضوع لم يحظ بالاهتمام التأريخي الكافي، الذي حظي به التاريخ المبكر للمغول، ووقائع غزوهم للعالم الإسلامي، لذا جاء اختياري لهذه الدراسة رغبة في استكشاف وسبر أغوار هذا الجزء المنسي من تاريخ الأمة الإسلامية، ودراسة الأثر الذي أحدثه واحد من أهم أبطال هذا التاريخ المنسي علي الساحة العالمية لعصره بوجة عام، والمغولية والإسلامية بوجه خاص، ومن الصعوبات التي واجهتني أثناء هذه الدارسة، عدم وجود سيرةٍ ذاتيةٍ سابقةٍ لبركة خان، أو محاولةُ جادة للتأريخ له، كما حدث مع ابن عمه هولاكو وغيره من خانات المغول الآخرين، وكذلك ندرةُ المعلومات المتاحة وتفرقِها و تضاربها في كثير من الأحيان، و تركيز أغلب الكتب العربية عند الحديث عن بركة خان علي علاقته بالظاهر بيبرس، وحتي تناول هذه العلاقة لم يخلو من بعض المفاهيم المغلوطة، لذا كان لابد من الاعتماد بشكل كبير علي الكتب الأجنبية، لاعطاء صورة متكاملة عن بركة خان، وقد اعتمدتُ في هذه الدراسة علي المنهج العلمي لدراسة التاريخ، مع نظرة تحليلة لما ورد في المصادر المختلفة، ومقارنتِها واستخراجِ الحقائق في كل نقطة من البحث، مع عرض الآراء بنظرة تحليلية.
