بالنسبة لموضوع المهدى، فقد انقسم الناس الى قسمين ، قسم رفض أحاديث المدى بالمرة، وقال ليس فيها شئ صحصح . وهذا قسم شدد على نفسه، وعلى الناس ن وركب متن الشطط. وقسم آخر تساهل فى الأمر، واعتبر كل الأحاديث التى وردت فى المهدى صحيحة. وهذا فيه من الخطورة ما فيه، فهو لا يقل خطراً عن الأمر الأول. وقد نسى أولئك وهؤلاء أن فى الأمر سعه، وأن الإسلام هو دين الوسطية، وأن التحقيق العلمى يقوم على البحث والمتحيص ، ورفض الهوى والتعصب ومن هنا فإنه لا إفراط ولا تفريط .
