يشهد العالم في وقتنا الحاضر تسارعاً مذهلاً في الأحداث على مختلف الأصعدة السياسية والإجتماعية والإقتصادية، وتتلاحق التطورات بشكل لم يسبق له مثيل في مجالات العلوم والتقنيات المختلفة، ويُعتقد بأن هذه التغيرات والتطورات مرشحة للإستمرار، بل للتسارع أكثر فأكثر في المستقبل.
وفي ظل هذه الظروف المتغيرة تضاءلت المسافات بين الأمم والشعوب، وتناقصت أهمية الحدود التي تفصل بين الدول، ودخل الجميع في عصر ثورة المعلومات والإتصالات والعولمة، ونتيجة لذلك ازدادت حدة المنافسة بين المنشآت الإقتصادية وتعقدت ظروف الإنتاج والتسويق وأصبح البحث عن الأداء الأفضل هو السبيل الوحيد لبقاء هذه المنشآت وإستمرار تطورها في المستقبل.
لقد أصبح مفهوم الأداء الأمثل يعني القدرة على إستخدام الموارد المتاحة أفضل إستخدام، ولعل أهم هذه الموارد في عصرنا هو المعرفة، ولأن الموارد محدودة وحاجات الناس متغيرة فإن على إدارة المنشآت الإقتصادية أن تتكيف دوماً مع حركة التطور من حيث الطرق والأساليب التي تتبعها من جهة، وتوفير الأفراد المؤهلين والقادرين على قيادة هذه المنشآت من جهة أخرى.
إن تغير الظروف والمعطيات يستدعي بإستمرار إعادة النظر في الطرق والأساليب التي تؤدي إلى تحقيق الأهداف، وذلك يتطلب معلومات تتصف بالدقة والملاءمة والمرونة التي تساعد على إتخاذ القرارات المناسبة في الأوقات الملائمة، وهذا هو الدور الذي يترتب على المحاسبة الإدارية القيام بالقسم الأعظم منه.
وسنحاول في هذا الكتاب تقديم أهم موضوعات المحاسبة الإدارية في إطارها العلمي الحديث الواضح والدقيق وبالأسلوب الذي يجعلها مادة سهلة الفهم والإستيعاب لطلاب كلية الإقتصاد والمختصين منهم في المحاسبة والإدارة بشكل خاص.
