عقب الإنتصار عام 1945، ظلّت بريطانيا مهيمنة على الشرق الأوسط، لكنّ الدوافع وراء رغبتها في السيطرة كانت تتغيّر، عَجِز البريطانيّون عن مواجهة القوميّة العربيّة واليهوديّة، ولذا رحلوا في غضون عقد، لكن هذه ليست القصّة الكاملة، فما سرّع خروج بريطانيا في نهاية المطاف كان الموقف المتصلّب للولايات المتّحدة التي كانت مصمّمة على الحلول مكان البريطانيّين في الشرق الأوسط.
لم يستسلم البريطانيّون بلباقة لهذا الهجوم، فبإستخدام سجلّات رُفعت عنها السرّية حديثاً ومذكّرات منسيّة منذ أمد بعيد، ينسف جايمس بار التفسير التقليديّ لتلك المرحلة التاريخيّة في الشرق الأوسط.
جايمس بار مؤرّخ وكاتب بريطاني متخصّص بشؤون الشرق الأوسط، تخرّج في جامعة أكسفورد، كتب في صحيفتي Daily Telegraph و City، صدر له عن دار الساقي: "الصحراء تشتعل: لورانس العرب وأسرار الحرب البريطانية في الجزيرة العربية"، و"خطّ في الرمال: بريطانيا وفرنسا والصراع الذي شكّل الشرق الأوسط".
