يدرس هذا الكتاب قصيدة المديح الأندلسية إبان عصر الطوائف دراسة تصنف ضمن إطار النقد التطبيقي، ويتناولها- من منظور جديد- بكونها تعبيرًا عن موقف إنساني مداره التوتر الموصول في نفس الشاعر الأندلسي نتيجة استشعاره هموم الإنسان الخالدة والرغبة في إشباع حاجات قوية وثيقة الصلة بذاته وأناه، بحيث تصبح المدحة الأندلسية حينئذ مظهرًا من مظاهر تحقيق الاندماج والتوافق بين هذا الشاعر ومجتمعه وليست مجرد أداة للتزرف والتكسب فحسب.
ويحوي هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه نماذج تطبيقية منتخبة من مدائح عصر ملوك الطوائف لنحو ثلاثين شاعرًا أندلسيًا تتناول أشعارهم موضوعات عديدة تعكس حركية التفاعل بين الأدب والبيئة وتأثيراتها على الذات والفن والذوق في المجتمع الأندلسي، وهو يتضمن معالجة فنية ونقدية في آن لكثير من الظواهر الشعرية التي تطرحها المدحة الأندلسية ولم تكن منبثة الجذور عن الشعر في المشرق العربي، فضلًا عن استجلاء قيمتها الشعورية، وخصوصياتها الجمالية، وأبعادها النفسية، ودلالاتها الاجتماعية.
