هذا الكتاب يتولى مهمة البحث في أسباب ودوافع وظروف الخيانة الزوجية من خلال دراستها في الواقع والروايات الأدبية على مدار زمني يتعدى القرن ونصف القرن يتبع فيه المنهج الفرويدي التقليدي للبحث عن أسرار هذه العلاقات غير الشرعية للمرأة المتزوجة من خلال الروايات والأبحاث المختلفة التي قدمها البعض بين النظريات والآراء المختلفة لعلماء وأطباء علم النفس وبين خيالات الرواثين مثل نجيب محفوظ ويحيى حقي وغيرهم نتبع هذه الدراسة في محاولة للوصول إلى الأسباب الحقيقية وراء خيانة الزوجات.
