إن علم ناسخ الحديث ومنسوخه من العلوم الرِّفيعة القدر، العظيمة الخطر، لا يتمَّ للمجتهد إجتهاده إلا بعد معرفته، ولا يتصدَّى للفتوى مُفْتٍ إلا إذا أخذ بحظ منه، ومع ذلك فهو معترك صعب، ومرتقى عسير، أعيا الفقهاء، وأهل الحديث قديماً ركوبهن فلم يخفوا حياله العجز والتردد.
وإن كتاب "الناسخ والمنسوخ في الحديث" لأبي حفص عمر بن أحمد بن شاهين المتوفى 385هـ، الذي بين أيدينا، لهو على تقدمه من أهم الكتب التي صُنِّفت في هذا الباب، وهي قليلة، وما وصل إلينا منها، وسلم من الضياع هو أيضاً من القلة بمكان.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب، اعتنى بتحقيقه دراسته الأستاذ الصادق بن عبد الرحمن العزياتي إتماماً للفائدة.
