إني لما طالعت التاريخ المعتبر، في أنباء من غبر، تأليف قاضي القضاة مجير الدين عبد الرحمن العليمي العمري المقدسي الحنبلي تغمده الله برحمته، وجدت المؤلف قد اختصر في ترجمة سيدنا ومولانا وشيخنا وقدوتنا إلى الله تعالى الشيخ عبد القادر الجيلاني الحنبلي "رضي الله عنه" ولم يذكر إلا اليسير من مناقبه، فتعجبت من ذلك وقلت في نفسي لعله اكتفى بشهرته "رضي الله عنه" فاختصر. واقتفى ما سلكه العلامة ابن الجوزي "رحمه الله عليه" واقتصر، فحركتني الإرادة لنيل السعادة أن أجمع مما وقفت عليه في كتب متفرقة ومما سمعته من الثقات ومما هو على خاطري من مناقبة قدس الله سره، ونور ضريحه، وأتبعها بعد أن أذكر نسبه الشريف بتخلقه وخلقه وعمله وعلمه وطرقه ووعظه وقوله وفعله، وما رزقه الله من الأولاد، وتعظيم الأولياء له اعترافًا بحقه وأذكر شيئًا من مناقبهم ومناقب من انتمى إلى جنابه، ولازم الوقوف بعتبة بابه.
