هذا الكتاب هو ترجمة لمخطوط قديم عن "ديوان الجزار السرقسطي الأندلسي" وبالتعريف هو "أبي بكر يحيى بن محمد بن عيسى الجزار السرقسطي من شعراء القرن الخامس الهجري، عاش في عصر ملوك الطوائف الذي كان يعج بالشعراء والكتاب في جميع بلاطات هؤلاء الملوك والأمراء. وكان على علم غزير وبراعة كبيرة في امتلاك ناصية اللغة والإطلاع على دقائقها، أما شهادة جامع ديوانه له بأنه كان على قدر كبير من العلم والثقافة حتى قال عنه جامع ديوانه له بأنه كان على قدر كبير من العلم والثقافة حتى قال عنه "لو أنشد شعره الصم لشق أسماعها وفتق، ولو تناولته البكم لأجرى لسانها بالتكلم به وأنطق...". وكان الناس يحرصون على سماع أشعاره لما فيها من طرافة وهزل، ويتسابقون إلى روايتها وحفظها.
تأتي أهمية هذا الديوان في إطار إظهار محاسن الأندلسيين وإعجاب أهل الأندلس بالمشارقة وأتباعهم لهم وانتهارهم بكل ما هو آت من المشرق... هذا وقد ضم المخطوط الذي بين أيدينا (47) سبعاً وأربعين بين قصيدة ومقطوعة، وكان أغلبها من القصائد التي تراوحت بين سبعة أبيات وسبعة وتسعين (97) بيتاً، في حين لم يتجاوز قصيدته في الغزل سبعة أبيات، ومطلعها: وكم ليلةٍ أحلى من الأمن بتَها، نديمي بدر والرحيق رضاب.
أما قصيدته في الهجاء فبلغت (97) سبعة وتسعين بيتاً، ومطلعها: برح الخفاء فلات حين خفاء، فاجهر فبئس الثوب ثوب رياء.
