مازلت أتذكر القلق والألم الذي انتباني ليلة مغادرتي بغداد، إنه شعور من سيغادر بلده ولا يعرف مستقبله ومتى يعود إليه. بعد صلاة فجر يوم 10-6-2003 ودعتُ من كان معي في داري ومن بينهم أخي باسل، استقللت السيارة لتقلني إلى سوريا، نظرت إلى الدار نظرة أخيرة وما أن تحركت شعرت أني فقدت شيئا كبيرا، وعندما استدارت السيارة نظرت إلى زقاقنا وودعته ومن فيه بألم وحسرة.. وكان هذا الألم يشتد وأنا في الطريق إلى الحدود السورية مستذكرًا كل أيامي في العراق، قراه ومدنه التي عشت فيها، شعور بالحزن الشديد لأني تركت إخوتي وأهلي وأحبائي وكل ذكرياتي في العراق لأغادره مضطرا للظروف التي استجدت وأرغمتني على ذلك.
