تعد "موسوعة حروب فجر الإسلام – محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم المثل الأعلى للقيادة، مؤلفها الخبير العسكري "شاكر محمود رامز" من أجلّ الكتب التي تناولت سيرة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم من الناحية العسكرية، فدراسة الحروب من ناحية عسكرية، وبخاصة لفترة الرسالة لما فيها من دروس، وعبر، تتمثل في شخص الرسول سلى الله عليه وسلم كمثل أعلى في القيادة، هي مما يحتاجه المسلمون في كل زمان ومكان، وبالأخص في عصرنا الراهن.
تبدأ الموسوعة بتتبع بدايات العمل على إرسال السرايا والبعوث التي نهض بها محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم مثل استطلاع طرق القواف (القرشية) والتحالف مع القبائل على طرق التجارة أو تحييدها.
وفي هذا الكتاب أيضاً اجتهد الكاتب في تبويب حروب الرسول حسب الجبهات والتطورات، والتي تبدأ بقوافل قريش، ثم تتناول حرب الأعراب، والحرب مع اليهود، والحرب مع قريش حتى فتح مكة، ثم الحرب مع الروم (الجبهة الشمالية).
من حيث الأسلوب يحرص الكاتب على الكتابة بأسلوب التاريخ الحربي الحديث، فهو يحدد الغزوة أو السرية وهدفها وأعدادها وقائدها وتاريخها والطريق الذي سلكته، وخطة القتال، مع إيضاح دلالتها في المفاهيم العسكرية الحديثة، فينتبه إلى المسافات وإلى الواقع، وإلى طبيعة الأرض، كما في معركة (بدر) ، ويلاحظ اثر ذلك في طبيعة القتال.
ويقدم الكاتب إحصاءات عن القوات في بعض الغزوات، ويبيّن أصناف القوات أحياناً من فرسان ومشاة ودروع ورماة، وما معهم من خيل وجِمال، وهو في شرح الخطط والقرارات قد يشير إلى مواقف أو معارك حديثة ليدلل على معنى وأهمية الغزوة التي يدرس.
في هذه السيرة تحليل ونقد. ويقدر الكاتب اجتهاده في تحليل الروايات، ومقارنتها أحياناً وبيان دلالاتها، وهو ما يميّز هذه السيرة بالإضافة إلى تحليل السيرة من الناحية العسكرية فهي عسكرية في مفاهيمها ومنطلقاتها، وتتناول الغزوات والسرايا كلاًّ على حدة، وتجتهد في رسم صورة متكاملة لها، من حيث تسمية المعركة، أسباب المعركة، المعلومات، الأرض، المنطقة، وتطورات وظروف كل معركة ومجرى حوادثها حتى انتهائها ...
