يعد العلاج المعرفي من أحدث التوجهات العلاجية، وهو اتجاه يرى أن الإضطراب النفسي عندما يحدث لا يشمل جانباً واحداً من الشخصية، وإنما يشمل أربعة عناصر هي: السلوك الظاهر (الأفعال الخارجية)، والانفعال (التغيرات الفسيولوجية)، والتفكير (طرق التفكير والقيم)، والتفاعل الاجتماعي (العلاقات بالآخرين)، ومن خلال الدراسات العلمية التي أجراها المترجم ومحاضراته في علم النفس الإكلينيكي والعلاجي ومعايتشه لمشكلات الأطفال والشباب والراشيدن والمرضى النفسيين اقتنع تمام الاقتناع بضرورة وجود مرجع اكلينيكي يطبق مبادئ العلاج المعرفي على أمراض نفسية ومشكلات سلوكية، يكون بمثابة دليل لطلاب الدراسات العليا في دراستهم لنظرية العلاج المعرفي، وأيضاً دليل للباحثين والمعالجين النفسيين في تعديل التشويه المعرفي المؤدي للمرض والإضطراب النفسي- حتى وقع إختيار المترجم على ذلك الكتاب الذي ألفه عدد من علماء النفس والمعالجين النفسيين حول خبراتهم وممارستهم الإكلينيكية في تطبيق العلاج المعرفي والذي قدمه للقارئ كل من جار سكوت، ومارك وليامز، وآرون بيك (1989) بعنوان "العلاج المعرفي في الممارسة الإكلينيكية".. وقد ظل هذا الكتاب طوال السنوات السابقة منذ صدوره هو المرجع التطبيقي الأساسي للمترجم في تدريب طلابه على ممارسة وتطبيق النظرية المعرفية في العلاج.. لكنه أراد أن ينقل هذه التجربة إلى الباحثين والمعالجين في شتى توجهاتهم.
