الديوان ترجمة للمآسي الطويلة التي يعانيها العالم العربي والتي وصلت إلى حروب الإبادة التي لا تفرق بين طفل أو رجل أو امرأة، فالكل أصبح هدفاً للقتل سواء في العراق أو سوريا أو ليبيا أو اليمن وأخيراً "غزة "فيقول في الإهداء: (أطفالنا غصن، وزهر، سنبلة.. عبير ، فلّ، بنفسج ، قرنفلة.. فأصبحوا صيد اً لصاروخ، قنبلة). في مقابل هذا المناخ المفعم بالوحشية ، هناك عالم الخنوع والتبعية الذي يخطب ممثلوه ود العدو .ويسيطر على الشاعر نوع من " الكآبة القومية " إن صح التعبير ؛ لأنها لا تركن إلى هذا اللون الهاديء المتناغم من الحزن القار في أعماق النفس ، نتيجة للتأمل في مواجد الحياة وأسرار الكون ، وإدراك عجز الإنسان وتصوره تجاهها ، ولكنها تتولد من شعور يقيني بالصدمة التي تلقاها إنسان لا يستحق المهانة في ظروف تاريخية واقعية مستفزة .فيقول :(بوح الأنين يشدني نحو البعيد / والمنتهى قلق يلوح / من مبتدى قوس الحصار / للرمح يسكن في الوريد / حزناً يباغت خطونا/ إذ يرسم الدرب المؤدي للذهول/ وللهجير أو الجليد).
ويرى الدكتور محمد السيد إسماعيل في مقدمة الديوان أن " الشاعر يمتلك قدرة لغوية واضحة ، وامتلاكاً جيداً للإيقاع وحساً جمالياً ينعكس على بناء صوره وأخيلته ، بالإضافة إلى إحساسه الصادق بهموم وطنه وأمته ، التي لا تنفصل عن همومه الذاتية ، بل إنه يخرج بينهما دائماً فحين تسمعه يقول : ( عيناك ظل يابس ) تظل احتمالات أنه يخاطب وطنه قائمة دون استبعاد إمكانية مخاطبة أنثى محددة "، والديوان يضم 36 قصيدة من الوزن التفعيلي منها :الخيول المجهدة ، في السعي إليك ، وجع السفين ، حزن بحجم المدى ، ما ابتعدت ، فتيل قنبلة ، الربابة والأرغول ، خارطة الرجوع ، سنو الخراب.
