هذا الكتاب من الأدب الساخر، وعلى الرغم من أنه أقرب إلى مذكرات بطلته “المهندسة البائسة الآنسة منى المصري” – كما تسميها المؤلفة- إلا أننا سنجد عبر سطوره الكثير من الرمزية الذكية عن حقيقة وضع الفتاة في المجتمع الشرقي، فتأخذنا البطلة من خلال سعيها لتحقيق أحلامها وطموحاتها الشخصية والمهنية، لنصطدم معًا بجدار الثقافة الذكورية الحاكمة للمجتمع، والتي عبرت عنها في أكثر من مقطع، فنجدها تصف قول الشاعر صلاح عبد الصبور لشعر (ت.س.إليوت) بأن النساء يصطنعن الثقافة حتى يظفرن برجل.. ونجدها تقول أيضًا أن الرجل كالشهادة الجامعية تكافح الواحدة حتى تحصل عليها، ثم لا تعرف بعد ذلك ما الذي تفعله بها.. إلى آخر هذه الاقتباسات، لنجد أنفسنا في النهاية أمام نقد اجتماعي وثقافي لمجتمع تعوّد ألا يسمع ولا يمتلك فضيلة أو موهبة الاستماع، لتناشدنا في مقدمة كتابها: “أرجوكم لا تفهموني بسرعة..!! تأملوا ما وراء الكلمات وما بين السطور فقد يكون ما أريد قوله مغايرًا تمامًا لما يبدو من ظاهر كلماتي”.
