Book Description
يحتوي الكتاب على ثلاثة روايات وأولها المارانا حيث بدأت هذه الرواية ذات اللون الكثير الرومانسية في تاراغون, عام 1811, عندما احتل الجيش الفرنسي المدينة, وكان من بين ضباط الاحتلال متباه بالجمال ايطالي, هو النقيب مونتفيور, والعريف البحري ديار. وهو شخص دون المتوسط في مظهر مهارة. وقد وقع هذا النقيب في حب فتاة شابة ذات جمال مدهش اسمها جوانا وقد اكتشف أنها تنحدر من سلالة مومسات شهيرات- المارانا ويتمكن مونتفيور من إغرائها واعداً إياها بالزواج. وفي القصة أشياء مثيرة تستحق القراءة. أما الرواية الثانية المسوق: وتدور أحداثها حول سيدة أرستقراطية دي دي تعيش بسلام في كارنتون, وكانت موضع مراقبة من أهل المدينة الصغيرة, وهي تنتظر سراً وبفارغ الصبر, ولدها, أحد قادة الثوار الملكيين, لكن أحد المسوقين أتى ليبيت عندها ذلك المساء, وفي غمرات الخوف والقلق تموت في اللحظة نفسها التي يسقط فيها ابنها صريعاً برصاصات الجمهوريين, على نحو مئتي كيلو متر من هناك. أما رواية السياف: فخلال حرب إسبانية, وأثناء تمرد يقوم به السكان تنفذ كلارا ابنة المركيز دي لغانس, المقدم فيكتور مارشان, الذي يتبادل معها بعض النظرات, ويتمكن الجنرال من القضاء على التمرد بقسوة. ويحكم على عائلة لغانس بالموت, لكن مارشان يستحصل من الجنرال على عفو لأي من أفراد عائلة لغانس يقبل بتنفيذ الإعدام بالستة الآخرين ويرفض جوانيتو الابن البكر في العائلة هذا العرض, لكنه أمام إلحاح أخته كلارا ثم والده ينتهي إلى القبول, ويتم التنفيذ بسيف عريض معقوف وعندما يأتي دور كلارا يعرض عليها فيكتور العفو عنها إن رضيت الزواج به.
