منذ أن احتلت إسرائيل الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة سنة 1967، كان للعمالة الفلسطينية المهاجرة يوماً فيوماً دور أساسي في ربط الإقتصادي الفلسطيني بإسرائيل. فقد استوعب هذا الإقتصاد أكثر من ثلث القوى العاملة المستخدمة. ورسم شكل التنمية الإقتصادية الفلسطينية وطبيعتها. لكن، منذ اتفاق أوسلو للسلام سنة 1993، ندرت تدفقات هجرة العمال، وهو ما سبب انخفاضاً في دخل الفرد الفلسطيني، وأدى إلى تنبؤات فحواها أن عهد هذه الهجرة وصل إلى نهايته.
يعرض هذا الكتاب أول تحليل شامل لإزدياد تدفق اليد العاملة الفلسطينية إلى إسرائيل وإنخفاضه، ويلقي الضوء على تبادل الإعتمادية بين مصادرة إسرائيل الأرض الفلسطينية وبين إستخدام العمال الفلسطينيين، الأمر الذي يبين كيف أن هجرة العمال نجمت عن تطور ديناميات الإحتلال الإسرائيلي ونمو القوة العاملة الفلسطينية. وتحلل هذه الدراسة نمط توريد اليد العاملة الفلسطينية، ودور سياسات إسرائيل المنطقية والإقتصادية تجاه الأراضي المحتلة في إخراج العمال الفلسطينيين من الأرض، وكذلك طبيعة الطلب الإسرائيلي على العمال الفلسطينيين، وخصوصاً في قطاع البناء، حيث يتركز معظم العمال المهاجرين. ويعتبر الكتاب الأول من نوعه أيضاً من حيث استكشافه طريقة تغير أنماط تدفق العمال، وإنعكاس هذا التغير على عملية إعادة رسم حدود 1967. إن تحليل القوى المتناقضة ما بين الفصل والدمج بين إسرائيل والأراضي الفلسطينية يبين كيفية فصل قطاع غزة عن إسرائيل بينما تظل الضفة الغربية مدمجة في الدولة اليهودية.
