التطورات العلمية عموما والتطور التكنولوجي وخصوصا في مجال الكمبيوتر والآلات الحاسبة وتخزين البيانات غير نظرية العلم عن العقل البشري وكيفية عمل الدماغ وآلية التذكر، إذ أن الذاكرة ليست مجرد عملية انطباع للمعلومات وإعادة استحضارها بل تتجاوز ذلك بمراحل معقدة تتداخل فيها أمور مازال يجهلها العلم حتى الآن، وللذاكرة البشرية قدرة كبيرة على استيعاب مليارات المليارات من المعلومات قدرها بعض العلماء بالرقم واحد وإلى يمينه 79 صفراً!!.. ومع أنه يستحيل على الإنسان استرجاع كل هذا العدد الهائل من المعلومات فإن ما يستطيع استرجاعه يكفي لملء 90 مليون مجلد ضخم ويضاهي هذا العدد من المجلدات أضخم مكتبات العالم في العصر الحاضر ولو تم صف هذه المجلدات جنبا إلى جنب لشكلت خطاً يزيد طوله عن 450 كيلو متراً.
وقد توصل العلم حتى الآن إلى تحديد ثلاث مستويات للذاكرة، المخزن المباشر لمعلومات الحسية وهي خاصة بالمعلومات المباشرة الواردة عن طريق الحواس الخمس حيث تنطبع في ذاكرة الأثر لفترة عابرة لا تتجاوز الثانية والنصف، الذاكرة قصيرة المدى، تحتفظ هذه الذاكرة بالمعلومات لفترات أطول ما بين 30 ثانية وحتى دقائق معدودة، والذاكرة طويلة الأمد، وهي أهم أنواع الذاكرة وأكثرها تعقيداً إذ يتم عن طريقها الاحتفاظ لسنوات طويلة بكل ما نعرفه عن العالم حولنا وبكمية هائلة من المفردات والمعاني والأوصاف والتعابير والأحداث والمواقف والمشاعر والأحاسيس.. وما إلى ذلك مما لو تأمل فيها الإنسان حق التأمل لازداد خشية وإيمانا بخالقه، ولتعرف أهمية ذاكرتك.. إعلم أن الإنسان بدون ذاكرة.. ما هو إلا مولود جديد!
