تندرج مقاربة هذا الكتاب ضمن مشروع المؤلف في الإشتغال على الخطاب الشعري العراقي، متخذاً من نصوص الشاعر العراقي (سامي مهدي) ميداناً له، وكان المنطلق الأساس الذي قدم فيه المؤلف أعمال نقدية هو الإيمان بالنص الإبداعي المحرّض، والإعتصام به والسعي إلى تفكيكه والكشف عما جعل منه نصاً مميزاً دون سواه، من دون إنكار أو تجاهلٍ لما يمكن أن يثوي في أعماق هذا الإختيار من معايير جمالية نسبية لا مفر لأي منهج من تفاديها، على الرغم من محاولات الإعتصام بالنص بوصفه منطلقاً فنياً ومحرضاً أولياً للدنو منه أو الإتجاه نحوه.
... وأنتم تقولون إني رأيت... وإني عرفت... أكان عليّ إذن أن أطير بعينين مغلقتين؟... وأن لا أرى في السماء سوى ما ترون وما تعرفون؟... ولكني طرت حتى رأيت... وحتى عرفت... وحتى اصطفيت... أأنتم تريدون أن... حسن... ها أنا قد سكت... ولكنكم تكرهون الطيور...
