هذا الكتاب مدخل معمق للنظرية التوليدية في التركيب الصوري، وفي الدلالة الصورية، في آخر نماذجها. وهو بذلك يغوص في إشكالات لغوية فلسفية قديمة وحديثة، تتمثل في علاقة الشكل بالمعنى في البحث اللغوي، قديمه وحديثه. ومن أهم ما يثير في هذا الكتاب أنه ينحو منحى توحيد تركيب المقولات المعجمية ودلالتها في اللغات الطبيعية. وقد مكنت هذه الفكرة / الفرضية العبقرية من جمع الصور بالمضامين في نظام واحد. فانطلاقاً منها، عالج المؤلف موضوع الأسماء والأفعال والحروف والحدود، وطبقات كل منها، بطريقة موحدة، لا يفرق بينها جميعاً إلا وجود الموضوع الإحالي أو عدمه. وهذا ما مكّن في النهاية من رسم معالم نحوٍ كلي يجمع التركيب بالدلالة في كافة المقولات، وبالنسبة لكل اللغات.
