علم القانون المقارن من العلوم التي لا غنى عنها لرجل القانون لتكوين عقليته القانونية. وعلم الدين المقارن من العلوم المرعية الجانب في كليات الدين لإنارة أذهان الطلاب والباحثين لتفهم وجهات النظر المختلفة، وتقوية روح الإنصاف والتسامح تلقاء آراء الآخرين وعقائدهم. وهذا الكتاب جمع بين دفتيه فضولاً عن البوذية والهندوسية والكنفوشية والشنتوية ملخصه عن كتابين للأستاذ "وليم باتون"، ثم فصولاً أخرى عن الأديان السامية الثلاثة- اليهودية والمسيحية والإسلام-وقد آثرالمؤلف أن يتحدث كل من هذه الأديان الثلاثة عن نفسه على لسان عالم من علمائه ، ولم يتعرض الكتاب إلى الأديان الوثنية الفطرية. لا لأنها غير خليقة بالدرس، فإن فريقاً من علماء هذا العصر قد توفر على دراستها، ولكن لأن نطاق كتاب مختصر كهذا يحول دون التبسط في عقائد متشعبة اتخذت أوضاعاً متباينة في رقاع كثيرة من أجزاء المعمور.
