"الولد الأسود" رواية خاصة من الأدب الأفريقي ذاع صيتها ونالت جائزة "شارل فايون" عام 1954، دونها "كامار الاي"، وهو واحد من كبار الروائيين الأفريقيين، وهي مزيج من السيرة الذاتية، تروي حكايات الطفولة والشباب المبكر لولد يافع عاش ودرس في غينيا، يركز فيها المؤلف على المعتقدات والأساطير والرموز الشعبية، وهي بالتالي مزيج عن مبحث أنتروبولوجي وحكايات بسيطة جداً. فيها يعالج المؤلف وعيه لذاته من خلال حياته الشخصية، وليس من خلال علاقات الفرد بالجماعة والشروط الموضوعية التي تعيشها الجماعة.
