مضت الأيام.. واقتربت الحياة من نهايتها... وغذ لخَّص الصَّحفي حياته بالمجمل فقد راح يندب ويتذمَّر: "تُعاشُ الحياة بطريقة يائسة مثل وليمة لا تنتهي أثناء الوباء فحسب".
أما الشاعر فكتب: "لحياة قصيرة مثل تنهيدة طفل"... وقف هذا وذاك أمام الرب في يوم الحساب... لم أكسب سوى القليل جدّاً من المال - راح الصَّحفيُّ يقسم لله - أعطني فرصةً أخرى وسوف أكسب المزيد!.
كم من الحبّ منسكبٌ في الطبيعة! - راح الشَّاعر يشكر ربَّه - لا تسمح لي بالعودة، إذ لن يكفيني ألفُ حياة لكي أروي كم هو العالم الذي خلقتَه بهيٌّ وجميل.
بيدَ أنّ الربَّ لم يصغِ لا إلى قول هذا ولا إلى كلام ذاك... بل محا السُّطر الذي يشير إلى أجر الصَّحفي في كشف الحساب... أما اسمُ الشاعر فتركه على الحجارة وفي أفئدة الناس.
