إن وثائق تاريخ اليمن الحديث سواء ما كان موجودًا منها في اليمن أو خارجه في مرحلة التعقب والجمع, ثم الفهرسة والتصنيف فيما بعد, بما يتعذر معه عرضها عرضًا علميًا شاملًا في الوقت الحالي. فقد رأيت أن أعرض في هذه الندوة الخاصة بوثائق تاريخ العرب الحديث شريحة من الوثائق البريطانية التي اختصت بشئون اليمن في تاريخه الحديث, والمحفوظة بأرشيف الكومنولث بلندن, وتتعلق بسياسة بريطانيا في عسير أثناء الحرب العالمية الأولى.
وقد وجدت من الأفضل منهجيًا أن أعرض هذه المجموعة من الوثائق في إطار التحليل التاريخي لأبعاد السياسة البريطانية في عسير أثناء الحرب العالمية الأولى, مع إدراج النصوص الأصلية باللغة الإنجليزية لهذه الوثائق في نهاية الدراسة, مرتبة كملاحق وفقًا لتناولها في ثنايا الموضوع. ولعل الإطلاع على هذه الوثائق ذات الجوانب المتعددة يساعد الباحثين في معالجة موضوعات جديدة تتصل بسياسة بريطانيا في الجزيرة العربية أثناء الحرب العالمية الأولى.
