إن كتابنا هذا هو عبارة عن دراسة وتحقيق لشرح الملا علي القاري (ت 1014هـ) الموسوم بــ "الزبدة في شرح البردة"، على قصيدة البردة للبوصيري، إذ إنه يعتبر من احسن شروح البردة المباركة، ويتميز بإنضباط عقدي، وتوجيه لما أشكل من أبيات البردة وساء فهمه، مع جمعه لروايات البردة، وتقليب معنى البيت وفقاً لرواياته، مع ترجيح الرواية الصحيحة، بخلاف معظم الشروح الأخرى، كما احتوى على إستدراكات القاري على غيره من شُرَّاح البردة، كإستدراكه على جدلال الدين المحلي، وعصام الدين الإسفراييني، وشيخ الإسلام زكريا الأنصاري، وابن مرزوق التلمساني، وغيرهم.
كما تضمن شرح القاري، معظم آراء الخبيصي الكرماني، وعصام الدين الإسفراييني، وهما شرحان مفقودان، مما أتاح لنا الإطلاع على منهجية هذه الشروح وإن لم تكن موجودة، كما أن الإحتفاظ بمعظم آراء عصام الدين الإسفراييني يعدّ من أعظم مآثر شرح القاري، فقد أكثر من النقل عنه، محتفلاً برأيه حيناً، ومحتجاً عليه أحايين أُخر.
