بلغة سردية بسيطة، ومن دون تنميق، يكتب طاهر الزهراني حكاية جميلة عن قرية معزولة من قرى تهامة، عن حكاية الجد والتبغ، عن تحولات القرية بعد أن وصلها الطريق، الذي يربطها بالمدينة، وبالدولة التي صارت تفرض عليها قوانينها...
"آخر حقول التبغ" رواية تحمل رمزية نهاية تلك الحياة التي تتبدّل كما يتبدل الحصن الذي يرمز إلى تلك الحياة التي لا يخبو الحنين إليها: "كلما حاولت أن أبتعد عن ذلك المكان، فإن الأقدار تعيدني إليه".
أشياء كثيرة يمكن أن تروى عن تلك المرحلة التي تحمل خزّاناً من الحكايات المستمّدة من الوقائع ليصنع منها الراوي خيالاً ممتعاً.
"ياااه يا جدي الوحيد، البقية الباقية من سلفنا المغروس في أعقاب الزمن، تغضّنات وجهه، عيناه المغمضتين، شرايين يده النافرة... بين تقطيبات الجبين تُندسَ مئات الحكايات...".
