اشتهر بجامعه ذو البناء المعمارى المميز والطراز الفريد.. به تذكره الناس حتى الآن, كتب فى سيرته ولكن هذا الكتاب الذى بين يدينا يختص به وبسيرته فقط دون الحديث عن خلفاء أو حكام آخرين, فهذا هو الكتاب الذى وضعه "أبى محمد عبدالله بن محمد المدينى البلوى", وقد كان ورد فى أول صفحات مخطوطه اسم "كتاب سيرة آل طولون" بالرغم من عدم وجود سوى ماتم تحقيقه فى هذا الكتاب عن "أحمد بن طولون" وحده, وهو ما يعنى إما ضياع باقى المخطوط الذى وضعه "البلوى" أو عدم أكتمال مشروعه وتاريخه, وقد أرخ "البلوى" لهذه الفترة الهامة من تاريخ مصر التى حكم فيها "ابن طولون" مستعرضا عوامل قوة دولته وعظمة حكمته وقساواته بين الناس جميعا فلم يفضل أحد الأجناس أو الأديان على الآخر, وقد قام بتحقيق الكتاب الأستاذ "محمد كرد على" مبينا وموضحا لما غمض أو قصر فى هوامش الكتاب معلقا على المتن وذلك لمزيد من الفائدة المرجوة, وقد بدأ الكتاب بحديث غير مطول عن مصر فى عهد العباسيين ثم التعرض لمولد أحمد بن طولون وبداية ظهوره, حتى موته وأسبابه مرورا بسنوات حكمه وطريقته وسياسته وأهم ما قام به.
