نزاع يثور بين الخليفة وزوجته زبيدة أمام جثت نوز حاتول وأبو الحسن، سبب هذا النزاع هو من مات أولاً هل هي توزحاتول التي جاءت للأمير زبيدة وطلبت منها نقوداً لدفن زوجها خادم الخليفة أو هو أبو حسن الذين جاء بدوره للسلطان وطالبه ببعض النقود لدفن زوجته الجميلة. وعلى أثر هذا النزاع يعلن الخليفة مبلغ ألف قطعة ذهبية لمن يعطي دليلاً يثبت وفاة أيهما أولاً، هذا المبلغ أثار طمع أبو الحسن وزوجته الكاذبين اللذان تظاهرا بالموت طمعاً في كرم الخليفة فقاما من فراشهما حال وجود السلطان ليعنا من مات منهما أولاً وذلك ليحصلا على العطية التي أمر بها الخليفة، ويكشفان عن كذبتهما التي قد توصل بهما إلى حبل المشنقة.
في هذا الإطار الفكاهي تأتي مسرحية أبو الحسن يسدد ديونه، هي المسرحية الحائزة على جائزة المهرجان المسرحي "لدينيجشاير" و"فلينتشاير" في إبريل عام 1940.
