لم تكن حروب الرِّدَّة حروباً عابرة اجتاحت الجزيرة العربية بعد وفاة نبيها صلى الله عليه وسلم؛ بل كانت إمتداداً طبيعياً لدور المنافقين في العهد النبوي، والذي أفسح القرآن الكريم مساحة كبيرة للحديث عنهم، وفضح نواياهم، وكشف حقيقتهم.
ولقد وقف هؤلاء المنافقون بجانب المشركين واليهود وراحوا يتآمرون على الإسلام وأهله بكل وسائل الخبث والمكر والدهاء، حيث تحزب هؤلاء جميعاً في معركة الخندق في العام الخامس للهجرة، فخيب الله تعالى سعيهم، وأبطل كيدهم، ثم طهر المسلمون الحجاز من اليهود بعد خيبر، وانكسر المشركون في مكة بعد فتحها إنكساراً عظيماً ودخل أهلها في الإسلام، ثم توالت وفود العرب تعلن دخولها في الإسلام.
بيد ان المنافقين في العهد المدني ظلوا يمارسون دورهم الخفي في النيل من الإسلام وأهله متى ما استطاعوا إلى ذلك سبيلاً؟ حيث وجدوا ضالتهم بعد وفاة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في زرع الفتنة وبث الفرقة! فشجعت هذه الطائفة المندسة< انصراف بعض الأعراب عن طاعة خليفة المسلمين المجمع عليه بحجة عدم صرف الزكاة إلا لمن كانت صلاته سكن لهم - يعني الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم - وهذا فهم قاصر منهم لنص القرآن الكريم، وما علموا أن الزكاة ركن من أركان الإسلام الخمسة!، إضافة إلى تشجيعهم لحركات إدعاء النبوة التي حدثت في أواخر العهد النبوي، وتشجيعهم الأعراب على خلعهم البيعة من أعناقهم بلا مسوغ من شرع أو عقل، وخروجهم على ولي الأمر هذا الخروج المشين، ولذلك توعدهم الله تعالى بالهلاك في الدنيا والعذاب في الآخرة.
لذلك، وقف الخليفة أبو بكر الصديق - رضي الله عنه - لفتنة الرِّدَّة منذ اليوم الأول بكل قوة وحزم؛ إذن كان لفقه وحنكة وإيمان أبي بكر - رضي الله عنه - في عدم مساومة هؤلاء المرتدين في أمر من أمور الدين، أمراً صائباً، جنى المسلمون ثماره حينما عادت الجزيرة العربية إلى سابق عهدها كما كانت عليه في عهد الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، بل إن الأمر عاد من جديد ليواصل المسلمون دورهم الدعوي لنشر الدين.
هذا ما سوف يعيشه القارئ بين ثنايا الأطلس التاريخي (لحروب الرِّدَّة في عهد الخليفة الراشد أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه) بخرائطه وصوره ونصوصه.
