يشرح هذا الكتاب عملية النسيج بإستخدام الأنوال اليدوية وكيف تطورت إلى الأنوال الآلية لإنتاج أقمشة بسيطة في عدد إختلافاتها عرفت بأنوال الكاملات تلا ذلك تطور آخر في إمكانية تشغيل عدد أكبر من الإختلافات النسيجية بهدف الحصول على أقمشة منقوشة بتصميمات محدودة في عدد الدرآت تتراوح بين 16- 24 درأة وأطلق على الجهاز المستعمل لتكوين النفس جهاز الدوبي.
وكان الحصول على أقمشة مزخرفة بنقوشات كبيرة يعتمد على طباعة أو تطريز هذه الأقمشة حتى اكتشف جوزيف ماري جاكارد الفرنسي الأصل آلة الجاكارد التي سميت بإسمه وتطورت إلى أن أصبح لها أنواع مختلفة الأغراض والإمكانات بحيث يمكن نسج جميع أنواع الزخارف بدقة ووضح تأمين مما كان له أثر كبير في تطور وإرتقاء صناعة النسيج.
