ينبع إهتمام الدراسة الحالية من رصد الملامح التي تقدمها الأفلام العربية لشريحة معنية من شرائح المجتمع وهي شريحة الأطباء النفسيين ودورها في تكوين الصورة الذهنية لدى الشباب عن هؤلاء الأطباء، خاصة وأن مجال الطب النفسي لا يزال يحاط بكثير من الغموض وسوء الفهم.
حيث اتضح للباحثة أن للإعلام دوراً مهماً جداً في تشويه صورة الأطباء النفسيين وإظهارهم في الأفلام كأشخاص مختلين عقلياً يتصرفون بطريقة غريبة. ونحن بحاجة ماسة لتوعية عامة الناس بأن المرض النفسي، مثله مثل أي مرض عضوي آخر له أعراضه وله علاج، وأن الإنسان جسد وروح، فكما للجسد وعكاته للروح وعكاتها. وأن الطب النفسي لا يقل أهمية عن الطب العضوي، ولكنه ما زال في صراع مع قلة الوعي والتقدير في المجتمع. صحيح أن صورة الطبيب النفسي أفضل مما كانت عليه من قبل، ولكن العقبات لا تزال موجودة بطريق الفرد الذي يحتاج إليه. سواء كانت عقباته الشخصية، أو عقبات فرضها عليه المجتمع. ولعل ذلك هو ما دفعني إلى تناول هذه القضية الهامة ليس دفاعاً عن الطب النفسي بل من أجل تصحيح بعض المفاهيم السائدة بعرض بعض الحقائق والآراء حتى نتبين الجانب الآخر من الصورة.
