هدفت هذه الدراسة الموسومة بــ دور التكرار في موسيقى شعر البحتري إلى تجلية العلاقة بين تكرار الحرف والكلمة والعبارة والموسيقى المنبعثة من ترجيع ذلك في النص الشعري، كما سعت إلى الكشف عن النغمة الخاصة التي يشيعها تكرار الحرف، أو الكلمة، أو العبارة.
فعلى الرغم من إيمان الباحث بأنه لا توجد حروف، أو ألفاظ، أو عبارات، مخصصة للفرح، وأخرى مخصصة للحزن، فإنه اجتهد ما وسعه الإجتهاد بإقامة علاقة بين ترديد حرف، أو لفظة، أو عبارة، أكثر من غيرها، وإلحاح الشاعر عليه أكثر من غيره، وبين النغمة التي يشيء بها، بالإضافة إلى محاولته تلمس قوة النغمة وضعفها من خلال الربط بين الحروف المجهورة، أو المهموسة، وبين المعنى الذي حرص الشاعر على إيصاله إلى المتلقي.
جاءت هذه الدراسة في مقدمة وتمهيد وثلاثة فصول، خصصت المقدمة للحديث عن أهمية الدراسة، وأهدافها، ومبررات اختيارها، والمنهج الذي اتبعه الباحث، والدراسات السابقة التي تناولت شعر البحتري وحياته.
