تعد الرواية واحدة من أقوى النظم التمثيلية في هذا العصر، فهي تزخر بإمكانيات هائلة لتحويل كل أنواع المعارف، وتصبو إلى التعبير عن الكلية على طريقتها. والرواية الجزائرية المعاصرة جزء من هذه الديناميكية، حيث انخرطت في جملة تفاعلات مع واقعها الفني والاجتماعي، أفرز تجارب روائية متنوعة بتنوع الاستجابة الجمالية والطاقة التعبيرية لدى كل مبدع.
وشكلت العشرية السوداء، بكل ما اعتمل فيها من صراعات، موضوعاً ملحاً استنفر الروائيين الجزائريين، وأسال قلوبهم وأقلامهم، وتراكم كم معتبر من النصوص الروائية المتفاوتة في جودتها وفي مشاربها الفنية. وقد أثار الأدب الذي أنتج حول هذه الفترة جدلاً نقدياً واسعاً. وآراء متناقضة، بين مثبت ومشكك، في إمكانياته التعبيرية وقدراته التمثيلية لأبعاد ومستويات الصراع الذي عصف بالبلاد والعباد. وقد قادنا هذا الاختلاف في الآراء إلى التساؤل عن قيمته الفنية، وعن مدى استيعابه الجمالي للواقع الذي يتناوله، ووجهنا للبحث في آليات تمثيل الصراع الرمزي في النصوص الروائية للتعرف على المعادلات الفنية التي تطرحها في مواجهة واقع الأزمنة.
ونظراً لغزارة الإنتاج الروائي الذي يتناول هذا الموضوع، ويستجيب لمتطلبات الدراسة، فإنّ اختيارنا لنصوص روائية بعينها كنماذج للتحليل لا يخلو من بعض الاعتباطية، على أننا حرصنا على اختيار الروايات من المتن الروائي الجزائري المعاصر، في شقيه العربي والفرنسي (وإن كنا اعتمدنا على الترجمات العربية لها) بما يتوافق واعتقدنا بأن الغة المستعملة ليست معياراً هوياتياً للأدب، وتسليماً منا بعدم وجود تعارض بين الرواية الجزائرية الناطقة بالعربية والرواية الجزائرية الناطقة بالفرنسية، وتحرّينا من جهة ثانية العمل على روايات مختلفة عن بعضها، في مضامينها وأشكالها، لتلمس تنوّع صيغ التمثيل وإبراز خصوصوية كل منها.
