لقد أصبحت تطبيقات الحاسب رافداً أساسياً لمختلف وظائف والعمليات والخدمات, التي تضطلع بها المكتبات ومرافق المعلومات علي اختلافها.. تلك التطبيقات التي شهدت نمواً متلاحقاً علي المستويين الكمي والنوعي؛ فأصبحت مواقع المكتبات والمعلومات علي الويب أشبه بذراع إلكتروني تمتد بيد العون لكل من يبحث عن المعلومات لقضاء حاجة تثقيفية أو تربوية أو إعلامية أو بحثية أو ترفيهية..
يتألف الكتاب من ثمانية فصول, تبدأ بتحرير صفحات الويب, ثم تنسيق محتوي هذه الصفحات وبحث مدي تفاعليتها.. ويشرح الكتاب كذلك المقصود بمشروع XAMPP من حيث الماهية والاهمية وخطوات التثبيت وتطبيق البرنامج.. ماراً بعد ذلك بنظم إدارة قواعد البيانات علي الويب, بكل تقنياتها الفنية وكيفية الوصول الي لغة برمجة هذه القواعد والمراحل الست المختلفة لبنائها علي الويب..
ثم يختتم الكتاب عرضه بتقديم نموذج تطبيقي لتصميم وبناء موقع مكتبة, بما يستلزمه ذلك من تخطيط وبداية ومحتوي وإدارة موقع وتحميل وصيانة.. كما يقدم الكتاب مسرداً بالمصطلحات المستخدمة والمصادر الازمة للرجوع إليها عند الرغبة في معرفة تفاصيل أكثر.
