القسم الأكبر من هذا الكتاب يغطي الفترة من شهر يونيو من عام 1918 الميلادي إلى شهر أغسطس من العام نفسه، بإستثناء رسالتين كتبهما فيلبي في فترة متأخرة، في عام 1921 - 1922 الميلادي.
وترجع الأهمية البالغة لتلك الرسائل إلى أنها ترسم - من ناحية - صورة حية لفراسة فيلبي ونفاذ بصيرة بريطانيا في مطلع علاقتها بإبن سعود، وتعد - من ناحية ثانية - قبسات نورانية قيمة من إلمام فيلبي إلماماً وثيقاً ودقيقاً بالشئون العربية، كما توضح - من ناحية ثالثة - رأيه الشخصي والصريح في أولئك الناس الذين تعرّفهم تعرفاً جيداً ووثيقاً، هذه الرسائل تكشف عن رغبة متقدة داخل فيلبي في إستكشاف المناطق المجهولة، وإبراز مشاعر الود والإحترام والولاء التي كان يكنها لإبن سعود.
أهم من كل ذلك أن تلك الرسائل ترسم صورة مبهرة للسعودية في بداية تأسيسها، ومع ذلك يظل كتاب "قلب الجزيرة العربية" موضوع هذا العرض بمثابة حجر الزاوية من بين كل أعمال وكتابات فيلبي.
