"بدأ هذا الأمر منذ ثلاثة أيام، عندما فتحت رسالة جاءتني بالبريد الإلكتروني من عنوان لا أعرفه، ولم يكن بها سوى صورة لهذا الوجه: رأس كبير وعينان حمراوان يسيل منها الدم، ولسان مشقوق كالأفاعي، وجلد متغضن، وأنف مدبب، وأسنان حادة كالخناجر، وشعر ثائر غجري. وكانت تحت الصورة كلمة طويلة بحروف لاتينية لم أستطع أن أقرأها. شعرت بالفزع عندما رأيت الصورة. ليس قلبي رهيفًا كما قد تظنون لكن الوجه كان كئيبًا ومقبضا بشكل لا يصدق، خاصة عينيه الداميتين اللتيْن كانتا بلا بؤبؤ".
هيثم فتى في الثالثة عشرة من عمره، يتعرض لمجموعة كبيرة من الأحداث الغريبة، ما بين ديدان تهاجم غرفته ليلًا، وصديق يختفي داخل جهاز الكمبيوتر، ووجه مرعب يطارده في كلِّ مكان، ويكون عليه أن يعتمد على نفسه لحلِّ هذه المعضلات العجيبة. تدور الأحداث في أجواء يمتزج فيها الخيال العلمي بالتفاصيل التقنية لعوالم الكمبيوتر والإنترنت.
