لذا، تحتم على المؤرخين أن يهتموا بأثر النفط على حياة الإنسان، والباحث في هذا المجال لا بد أن يكون أكثر إهتماماً بالتفاصيل من (السياسي) الذي ينصب إهتمامه الأساس في البلدان النفطية على تحرير العقود للحصول على أكبر قدر من الأرباح النفطية.
لذا، بات من الضروري العناية بتدوين الأثر الذي ولده النفط رغبةً في ذكر الحقائق التاريخية، فبسبب النفط نشبت الخلافات والحروب، وتغيرت السياسات، وظهرت الإتفاقيات والمعاهدات، لذا فإن هذه المادة - بما جلبته للإنسانية من منافع - جديرة بأن تكون في بؤرة البحث.
ولصلة النفط المطلقة بالدولة والمجتمع - وهذا بحد ذاته حقل واسع أثار عناية الباحثين - حاول الباحث أن يُبين طبيعة هذه الصلة من خلال تسليط الضوء على ظاهرة تأثير هذه المادة على دولة ووضعها موضع النظر والكتابة للتوصل إلى الإستنتاجات المفيدة.
