قد اقتضت خطة هذه الدراسة أن تكون في تمهيد تسبقه مقدمة وتليه ثلاثة فصول متلوة بخاتمة ومصادر البحث ومراجعه، أما التمهيد، فتضمن دراسة (تعدد المعنى الوظيفية للصيغة الواحدة) متناولاً ثلاث نقاط هي: أولاً: مفهوم الصيغة الصرفية، ثانياً: مفهوم المعنى الوظيفي، ثالثاً: تعدد المعنى الوظيفي.
وأما الفصول، فكان الفصل الأول بعنوان: (افعل التفضيل وحالاته) واشتمل على أربعة مباحث هي: المبحث الأول: مفهومه وشروطه صياغته، المبحث الثاني: حالاته من حيث اللفظ، المبحث الثالث: حالاته من حيث المعنى، المبحث الرابع: حالاته من حيث الإنطلاق والتقييد.
وكان الفصل الثاني بعنوان (تجرد صيغة أفعل عن معنى التفضيل) وتضمن ثلاثة مباحث هي: المبحث الاول: إشارات اللغويين إلى مسألة تجرده، المبحث الثاني: موقف اللغويين من مسألة تجرده، المبحث الثالث: حالات أفعل المجرد عن معنى التفضيل.
وتكفّل الفصل الثالث بدراسة (الشواهد على تجرد صيغة أفعل عن معنى التفضيل) وجاء على مبحثين هما: المبحث الأول: الشواهد الشعرية، المبحث الثاني: الشواهد القرآنية، وختمت هذه الدراسة بخاتمة تضمنت أهم النتائج وتلتها قائمة المصادر والمراجع.
